"Poison" Candy Apples

Candy Apples

Combine your trick and your treat this Halloween with an activated charcoal Candy Apples-coated "poison" apple.

  • Nonstick spray
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 2 tablespoons edible activated charcoal
  • Black food coloring
  • 6 to 8 apples
  • Sprinkles, for decorating (optional)

  1. Prepare à sheet tray with parchment paper and coat with nonstick spray.
  2. In à saucepan over medium-high heat, add water, sugar, corn syrup, charcoal and food coloring (if needed). Bring to à boil and simmer until sugar reaches hard-crack stage, 300 degrees.
  3. Insert à popsicle stick into each apple. When sugar is done, quickly dip each apple to coat. Decorate with sprinkles (optional), and place on prepared sheet tray to set.
